About

Hi and thanks for dropping by….

My name is Spencer Parks and I am currently the director of the Menucha Retreat and Conference Center (www.menucha.org). I also serve as one of the associate pastors at First Presbyterian Church, Portland, Oregon.  I’ve been at Menucha a titch over 7 years so the first part of March 2012, I begin my very first sabbatical.  I’ll be traveling to Uganda to spend a month teaching in a school in the Kamwenge District and then I’m off to parts of Europe for a little vacation time.  When I return to the States, I plan to work on my farm (at present it needs a lot work).  I see a large garden and some livestock in my future.

I grew up in the southeast and moved to the Pacific Northwest when I came to Menucha.  We (Sarah, my wife, and I) love living and working in this part of the world.  I’m excited about my time overseas.  I hope you’ll enjoy the musings that will be posted here.  Would love to hear from you!

Interests:

Music–I play the guitar…poorly

Food–avid cook (barbeque is of particular interest)

Reading–mostly to escape

Woodworking–especially wood turning

Farming–I’m learning

About commenting on this blog:

I invite your comments and feedback. When you first click “leave a comment,” you’ll be asked to register; next, I’ll have to click an internal box to allow your words to show. Sorry if this seems cumbersome. We set it up this way because we tried a wide open comment policy on a Menucha page before and got hundreds of spam messages every day. Thanks for your understanding.

    Hi Spencer and Sarah…

…fun to read about your great adventure as it unfolds! Hope you will be posting some native animal pictures too. Just curious about what you are seeing… Hope you are feeling better Sarah and the treatments helped.

I’m trying to picture what sitting 5 hours in my church on Sunday would look like… Sad to say, It would make me grumpy…

…so happy for you both as your make new discoveries and new friends…

    All for now… Becky L.
